| The Martial Art of Peace |
| THE FOUNDER OF AIKIDO |
|
 Morihei Ueshiba
|
Developed from an ancient martial art, Aikido came
into being through the efforts of Morihei Ueshiba (1883-1969), the founder of
Aikido. He is recognised as one of history’s greatest martial
artists. He developed an art
that joins with the force of an attack and utilises throws
and locks. Morihei Ueshiba Sensei synthesized a variety of martial
arts techniques he had learned from studying with masters of ‘jujitsu’
(unarmed combat), ‘kenjutsu’ (kendo) and ‘sojutsu’ (spear
fighting).

"The Art of Peace begins with you. Work on yourself and
your appointed task in the Art of Peace. Everyone has a spirit that can be
refined, a body that can be trained in some manner, a suitable path to follow.
You are here for no other purpose than to realise your inner divinity and
manifest your innate enlightenment. Foster peace in your own life then apply the
art to all that you encounter." |
